System Overview

The Remote Automation SmartBox Pro (RASB) is an intelligent control hub designed to manage aquaculture systems, aeration units, feeders, pumps, and valves without relying on its own water quality sensors. Instead, it securely synchronizes with external monitoring devices that provide real-time water quality and dissolved oxygen (DO) data to a cloud platform.

The RASB then receives this data, processes it, and automatically (or manually) triggers connected systems to maintain safe water conditions.

Core Functional Components

  1. External Data Collection
  • Water quality probes (DO, temperature, pH, turbidity, etc.) are deployed on separate monitoring devices.
  • These devices continuously measure parameters and upload encrypted data to a secure cloud server.
  • The Smart Box fetches the latest data stream through its communication module (LTE/4G/5G, Wi-Fi, or LoRaWAN).

  1. Data Processing & Decision Engine
  • The Smart Box contains a programmable logic controller (PLC) or microcontroller with built-in automation algorithms.
  • Once external data is received:
    • Threshold rules are applied (e.g., DO < 5 mg/L → trigger aerator).
    • Event prioritization ensures life-supporting actions (oxygenation).
    • Fail safe timers ensure actions (like aeration) continue for minimum periods to avoid rapid cycling.

  1. Smart Device Control
  • The RASB has output relays and digital control ports connected to:
    • Aerators → switch on/off automatically when DO drops.
    • Feeders → trigger on schedule or remotely.
    • Pumps and valves → open/close to refresh or exchange water.
    • Lighting or auxiliary systems if required.
  • Control signals are issued either:
    • Automatically based on water quality thresholds.
    • Manually by the user via the customer mobile/desktop app.

  1. Smart Box–to–Smart Box Communication
  • Boxes deployed across different ponds/tanks can communicate peer-to-peer via the cloud.
  • Example: If Box A detects dangerously low oxygen in its pond, Box B can be alerted and switch on reserve oxygenation systems if connected to the same facility.
  • This ensures redundancy and intelligent cross-pond management.

  1. Emergency Alert System
  • When thresholds are critically breached (e.g., DO < 3 mg/L), the Smart Box:
    • Sends instant push notifications, SMS, or email alerts via the cloud.
    • Logs event history for compliance and trend analysis.
    • Activates emergency automation mode (maximizing aeration, restricting feeding, opening emergency valves).

  1. Cloud Integration & Security
  • Data transfer is encrypted (TLS/SSL) to ensure confidentiality.
  • The Smart Box syncs to a secure cloud dashboard, where customers can view:
    • Real-time water quality trends.
    • Historical performance logs.
    • Automated vs. manual control actions taken.
  • Multi-level access control ensures that only authorized users can override automation.

  1. Remote Automation Customer App
  • Features:
    • Monitor live pond status (DO, pH, temp, turbidity, ammonia, etc.).
    • Receive emergency alerts instantly.
    • Remotely switch aerators, feeders, and valves.
    • Override automation schedules.
    • Review historical analytics and reports.
  • App integrates with multiple Smart Boxes across different sites, allowing centralized farm management.

How It Works in Practice (Workflow Example)

  1. External monitoring device records DO = 4.8 mg/L → uploads to cloud.
  2. Smart Box fetches latest data → detects DO below threshold (5 mg/L).
  3. Decision engine automatically switches on aerator for Pond A.
  4. Smart Box sends confirmation log to cloud → app shows “Aerator ON.”
  5. If DO drops further (e.g., 3 mg/L), emergency protocol is activated:
    • All aerators switched on.
    • Water exchange pump activated.
    • SMS/email/push notification sent: “Critical Oxygen Drop.”
  6. Users can remotely override or adjust system via app.
  7. System continues monitoring and adjusting automatically, ensuring stable water conditions.
